What does a grief confident workplace look like?
Four pillars, published as a standard any workplace can be certified against.
The pillars are the same for every workplace; the standard scales with your size.
-
Grief Literacy for members from across the workforce, plus any team experiencing a bereavement.
-
Certified Grief First Aiders, named colleagues trained to be the first point of contact after a bereavement.
-
A Compassionate Return Framework your managers can follow, whatever your policy says: the first conversation, the leave in practice, the return, and the year after.
-
Support that reaches work and home, including children. This can be as simple as signposting to trusted resources and services.
What that gives you: managers with the words for the hardest moments, fewer difficult conversations landing on HR, and people who stay and recover instead of quietly leaving.
The Grief Confident badge
Workplaces that meet the standard can display the Grief Confident badge on their website, careers pages and internal communications. It is a visible sign, to your people and to the people you hope to hire, that your workplace is ready for one of life's hardest moments.
Every certified person is entered on the Grief Confident Register: who is trained, where they sit, and when renewal is due. We maintain it for you and share it with your quarterly report. From 2027 it lives inside Memory Robin at Work, visible to your own people.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Grief Confident Workplace standard?
A published benchmark for workplace bereavement capability: grief literacy across the workforce, certified Grief First Aiders colleagues can turn to, a Compassionate Return Framework managers can follow, and support that reaches work and home. Meet it and you can display the Grief Confident badge and join the Register. The pillars are the same for every workplace; what you commit to scales with your size.
How long does it take to become grief confident?
A first certified cohort completes in four weeks. A full rollout to the standard across a large workplace typically runs over a year as a partnership, scheduled around your sites and shifts.
Who delivers the training?
Experienced bereavement professionals, led by Nicola Coutu-Langmead, Co-founder and formerly Head of Training and Research at Child Bereavement UK and a former Marie Curie bereavement counsellor.
How is the impact measured?
Wellbeing and confidence are measured before and after training, with quarterly reporting and an annual impact summary for workplaces on the Leading partnership.
Do you charge per employee?
No. Every level is a single fixed price for your workplace, agreed up front, however many people benefit. Prices shown are for virtual delivery; in-person delivery carries an additional charge.
